disney theatrical productions are presenting aladdin, playing at the west end’s prince edward theatre.

based on the much-loved animated film, aladdin: the new stage musical tells the story of a street-smart commoner whose whole life changes with one rub of a magic lamp. this new aladdin incorporates all of the beloved songs from the film's oscar??-winning score plus never-before-heard menken/ashman songs restored from early drafts of the score. it marks a return to the authors' original vision: a loving homage to the hope-crosby road pictures with a score invoking the jazz sound of stars like cab calloway and fats waller.

the director/choreographer is casey nicholaw and the casting director is jill green.

genie and genie alternatek: male, 30-45. playing age 30s-40s, 5’10–6’2. quick-witted, fast-talking, ancient genie who knows all time and place; an old-school song-and-dance man. think cab calloway, fats waller type, able to sing jazz. strong presence in lower range, up to a in chest voice and up to d in strong falsetto. strong dance required including tap. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

aladdin: male, 27-33. playing age late 20s-early 30s, 5’10–6’1. clever, resourceful street urchin with a heart of gold; best friends with babkak, omar and kassim; seeks a life beyond the confines of poverty. striking actor with an athletic build. soaring bari-tenor voice, low bb and up to a. strong dance required including good tap. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

jasmine: female, 27-30, playing age late 20s. 5’5-5’9. intelligent, striking, exotic, young princess with insight beyond her years and station; seeks a life beyond the confines of privilege. strong mix, and strong belt to e. ability to float in the upper mix into soprano (up to f) and project in lowest register (down to a). solid dance required. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.


jafar: male, playing age 45-60. 5’11-6’4. the royal vizier. amoral psychopath who will not hesitate to destroy anyone he perceives as a threat to his own sinister designs. strong actor, with good comedic ability and strong evil laugh. bass / bass-bari vocal, can be in style of cyril ritchard “speak – sing”. low g to eb. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

sultan: male, 50s, 5’11–6’2. kind-hearted, widowed ruler of agrabah; gets so caught up in following the law and tradition that he overlooks his daughter jasmine’s desires and gets swindled by his own vizier, jafar. strong actor. baritone up to e although sings very little in the show. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

obabkak: male, 27- 33, playing age late 20s-early 30s, 5’8–5’11. chubby, funny, romantic desert dweller, part of aladdin’s band; the “crosby” of this arabian “road” picture, although perhaps with a bit more flair. strong comedy. power tenor, up to solid high c. needs good ear for harmonies and ability to blend. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

omar: male, playing age late 20s-early 30s, 5’8–5’11. nervous, thin, reedy desert dweller, part of aladdin’s band; the “lamour.” strong comedy. bari-tenor, up to a. needs good ear for harmonies and ability to blend. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

kassim: male, 27 -33, playing age late 20s-early 30s, 5’10–6’. tough and street smart, desert dweller, part of aladdin’s band. strong, smart and bold leader of aladdin’s group. striking actor with athletic build. strong comedy. very strong baritone, low a and up to g. needs good ear for harmonies and ability to blend. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

iago: male, 40-45, playing age 40s, 5’5–6’. jafar’s comedic sidekick. grovels at jafar’s feet and has difficulty controlling his temper. very strong comedy timing and physical comedy required. good tenor or bari-tenor up to a. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.

male ensemble / swings: male, 25-35, playing age 20s-30s,:5’11–6’4. excellent athletic dancers with very strong dance in all styles, including tap, with strong singing voices. also strong dancers with excellent singing voices. some will play featured roles and some will cover the lead and supporting roles in the company. two of the male ensemble need tumbling / acro / gymnastics skills. please specify on your submission if this applies. all vocal ranges required, but particularly strong high tenor and bari-tenors. please specify on submission if you would swing. they strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and cultural backgrounds to be submitted.
