The story follows Bill over several years. He began as a person who started a fanzine (a photocopied newsletter) that later became a successful magazine that covered heavy metal music. He dabbled in making movies and in hosting radio shows. One day, tragedy struck, and he relocated to Texas. The culture shock was jarring, but worse, all revenue streams dried up. He withdrew for a few years, but a friend urged him to return to the entertainment world.
Things changed drastically while he was dormant. Streaming replaced physical media. Censorship was imposed, which nullified almost all of his material. The rest of the story is him trying to jump hurdles. This is a slice-of-life movie with no grandiose plot, and presented in a non three-act structure. The bad luck of the protagonist is even worse than Larry David's predicaments in "Curb your Enthusiasm."
