Haunted and grieving, Malcolm faces his family’s history while falling under the apartment’s supernatural influence. Requires strong emotional range to portray grief, quiet intensity, and eventual acceptance of the horror.
The matriarch. In the 1980s, a tough Bronx single mother raising two daughters alone. By the present, she is found lifeless in her wheelchair, but her presence lingers. Actor must capture both stern resilience and vulnerability. Think character types in the vein of Alanna Ubach, Katherine Narducci, Welker White, or Stephanie Kurtzuba—grounded, sharp, emotionally layered, and able to balance grit with tenderness.
The responsible sister. Assertive, practical, and caring but embittered by years of dysfunction. In the present, she struggles to face her mother’s death while carrying old wounds. Should be chubby or slightly overweight/curvy, with blonde hair to emphasize her grounded, everyday authenticity and contrast with her sister’s sharper, more rebellious energy.
The rebellious sister. Quick-witted, emotional, and impulsive in her youth. In the present, she is shattered by her mother’s passing, clinging to denial and emotional outbursts. Should be slender and brunette, with a look and presence along the lines of Victoria Pedretti: expressive, intense, and able to balance raw fragility with fiery defiance.
