Twilight's Stephenie Meyer Responds To Critics Who Say That Bella Swan Is Not A Good Role Model

Twilight's Stephenie Meyer Responds To Critics Who Say That Bella Swan Is Not A Good Role Model

Twilight is the most popular love story in Hollywood but it's also the most criticized. It's been a decade since the movie was at the peak of its fame and Stephenie Meyer has resurrected it with her new movie Midnight Sun. The movie retells the story of Twilight through Edward Cullen's perspective. Since the movie was released, there has been a popular debate going on among Twilight fans and it's centered on Bella Swan. The hottest question making the waves is: Is Bella Swan a good role model For It's YA audience?

The question is quite complicated as there are times when Bella did things that made her seem like a naive and vulnerable object that Edward had to protect all the time. However, at the end of the series, she changed completely. Here's what Stephenie Meyer had to say: "There are people who think Bella is not like a great example for a young girl. And I think there are elements – yes, you should not get that caught up into a boy. If it's a fantasy creature that doesn’t really exist, go right ahead, you have my permission. If it's a normal human boy, yeah, take a step back, absolutely. Because this is a fantasy novel that is set in a world that isn’t real but at the same time I do think it's good for girls to be like ‘I can be sure of what I want and not be afraid of what I want."
